Filling in the wellbeing blanks with Katie Mars from Katie Mars Personal Training
We are all busy and are trying hard to fulfill big dreams and goals, manage our long to do lists and have a social life! The art of doing this without sacrificing our most important assets, our bodies and our health, is the challenge we are all faced with day to day. All of us, no matter who we are, have to keep working at it and can learn from each other – so each Wednesday we will chat to a passionate bright spark to hear about what they are up to and fill in their wellbeing blanks!
Today we are filling in the blanks with Katie Mars from Katie Mars Personal Training. Katie Mars is a Melbourne based personal training and wellbeing company, focused on helping people achieve greatness in every part of their life, through having a healthy mind and body. Katie believes that the better quality food you eat and the more daily movement your body gets, the greater the chance you have of beating illness and depression. Hard work and dedication will get you the body you want, but having a kind soul and patience within yourself will help you achieve life success. At Katie Mars, they help you aim for the stars! Let’s hear what Katie has to say:
To Katie to be well means to wake up each day with a positive attitude. Try to be a giver and not so much a taker. To strive to have a healthy heart and mind is the most important gift we can give ourselves.
I have 3 jobs. I work in corporate retail marketing during the week and on the weekend I am a personal trainer. I am also a part time student which I consider another job because it’s for my future career! I am studying Nutritional Medicine and love every second of it! I cant wait to be a practicing nutritionist and spend all my working hours helping people become happier and healthier versions of themselves! Plus… I LOVE FOOD 🙂
Cooking a variety of wholesome meals and stocking the fridge on Sunday’s, is usually easy for me when it comes to managing my wellbeing. I follow a Paleo diet and a big part of why I eat that way is to ensure I stick to a wholefoods diet, rich in vegetables, grass fed meats, sustainable seafood, good fats and scrumptious seasonal fruits! Preparing my meals in advance ensures I always have nutritious food on hand whenever I am hungry.
Being away from home (I’m a creature of habit!) is usually hard for me when it comes to managing my wellbeing. At home, I love having my own kitchen for my cooking, I love walking my dog with my husband after dinner and I also miss my Crossfit buddies when I don’t get to seem them every morning for our daily dose of serotonin!
Wanting to be everything to everyone always seems to throw my wellbeing off track.
Meditation and a good homemade veggie soup brings my wellbeing back on track. Plus there’s nothing like a hot box yoga session to get rid of toxins.
Something I’ve found that really helps when it comes to my health, fitness and wellbeing is being strong minded. If you don’t stay focused you won’t get up when its cold and wet outside to start your day with some exercise and you will choose the easy takeaway option for dinner, instead of cooking yourself a nutritious feast!
Something I’ve learnt over the years when it comes to health, fitness and wellbeing is be kind to yourself. You’re only competing against yourself, no one else. Your body is your engine, so help it run at it’s best and give it the right fuel.
The advice I would give to someone half my age when it comes to looking after their body is stay active is if you let yourself slack off too much, it will be harder to pick up the pieces later. Incremental exercise is the best! It’s as simple as going for a walk with a girlfriend for a catchup chat!
The problem with being too obsessive and trying to be a perfectionist when it comes to your health and wellbeing is you’ll never think you’re good enough and what a waste of time that is! Love your body cause its the only one you’ve got.
If my body stopped working my ability to do my work would be harder, but if there’s a will there’s a way!
If my body could talk right now the loudest thing that it would say / ask for is be proud. You’re doing a great job and you’ve come a long way! Eating well and exercising makes my body feel good, so I need to keep it up to ensure my body is happy 🙂 Go get in the water! There’s nothing my body feels more relaxed doing than swimming and being at one with the ocean. Oh and smile! If you feel sad, look up to the sky and just smile 🙂
